DANIELLE Bentley is a real Northern star!

The teenager from Ellesmere Port was crowned Northern Under 20 Women’s javelin champion at Sportcity, Manchester.

Bentley, representing Sale Harriers, launched the javelin to a winning mark of 44.85m.

West Cheshire AC’s David McKay launched the senior men’s javelin to 66.75m for men’s second position, and clubmate Tom Booth achieved a silver medal performance of 57.28 seconds in the under-20 men’s 400m hurdles.

Lauren Hunt, also of West Cheshire AC, finished fifth in the senior women’s discus with a throw of 33.88m.

Aidan Stoakley posted 11.67 seconds for sixth place in his heat of the under 20 men’s 100m and Rachel Treloar clocked 13.16 seconds for sixth position in her under 20 women’s 100m heat.

Cheshire finished runners-up to West Midlands at the Mason Trophy inter-county track and field schools meeting, staged at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium.

Jenni Potter (Neston High) claimed second spot in the intermediate girls hammer with an English Schools standard throw of 34.06m, while Ellesmere Port’s Alice McMahon posted 12.9 seconds for fourth position in the intermediate girls 100m.

Olivia Montez-Brown clocked 12.5 seconds for ninth place in the intermediate girls 80m hurdles and Sophie Percival (Whitby High) achieved 8.01m for 14th position in the junior girls shot.

Fixtures this weekend include the latest round of the Cheshire Track and Field League at Crewe’s Cumberland Stadium on Sunday (1pm start).

Other fixtures include the Tattenhall Tough Team Challenge on Friday, the Lymm 5k Road Race on Saturday, the English Schools Regional Combined Events on Saturday and Sunday at Trafford, and the England Under 20 and U23 Trials at Bedford on Saturday and Sunday.
