MATTHEW Pagan spearheaded West Cheshire AC’s charge at Stanney in the opening round of the Youth Development Under 17/U20 Track and Field League.

Pagan stormed to success in a new U17 men’s 400m personal best of 50.9 seconds, and clocked a winning 200m time of 23.0 seconds, alongside under 20 men’s 400m winner Mark Hearn (53.6).

Cameron Clarke won the U20 javelin with 44.22m, and Sam Rimmer won the U20 B long jump with 5.11m and was second in the triple jump with 11.10m. Zac Barnsley struck gold in the U17s 100m (11.8) and 200m (23.4), while Niall Harrison clocked a winning U17s 800m time of 2:13:7. James McMahon was first in the U17s high jump (1.73m) and pole vault (2.80m), Nick Mitchelson threw 31.70m for second spot in the U17s javelin, and Chris Harrop was third in the U17s 3,000m.

The quartet of Harrison, Pagan, McMahon and Barnsley won the U17s 4x100m relay in 46.9 seconds.

Alice McMahon secured an under 20s 100m (12.7) and 200m (25.5) double success story, and Ali Burkett clocked an under 20s winning 400m time of 63.2.

Kelly Baker (27.43m) and Jenni Potter (19.35m) spun the U20s discus to winning marks, while Emily Ball won the U17s discus (31.92m) and shot (9.40m), and Sophie Percival launched the U17s javelin to a winning mark of 32.18m.

Olivia Montez-Brown (5.19m and 10.22m) and Danielle Erskine (4.87m and 8.92m) claimed victories in the U20s long jump and triple jump respectively.

Montez-Brown, Baker, Erskine and McMahon won the U20s 4x100m relay in 52.0 seconds, and the quartet of Erskine, Montez-Brown, Baker and Burkett finished second in the 4x400m in 4:33.2.

Jeff McQueen was one of six West Cheshire AC award winners at the final round of the Borders Road Running League Series.

McQueen was the club’s first finisher at the final round held at Wrexham and clocked 22 minutes 54 seconds for the four miles course to secure 29th place.

McQueen won the overall over-45 men’s award, while Andrew Starkey (31st in 23:02) was third overall in the over-50 age category, and Mark Davies (34th in 23:05) was sixth overall in the senior men’s section.

Rob Freeman topped the over 55 men’s age group overall after finishing 88th at Wrexham in 25:11; Lisa Davies was third in the over-40 ladies age group overall after posting 28:02 for 21st spot at Wrexham; and Lynda Bish was third in the over-40 age group overall.
