A SPRINTER celebrated his 41st birthday in style – by shattering yet another record.
Darren Scott, who works at the Total Fitness gym in Chester, broke the indoor Masters 40 British record over 300m at a Sale Harriers open meeting.
The birthday boy clocked 34.95 seconds, shaving almost a second off the previous record of 35.87s.
Since December, Scott has broken an amazing six British indoor records and two world indoor records – not bad going for a former painter and decorator who only started running seriously at the age of 21!
He said: “I came into sport very late and never reached my full potential because I was always working.
“Now I’m a personal trainer I’m more like a professional athlete than I ever was and I’m reaping the rewards.”
Scott, formerly of Frodsham but now living in Runcorn, is a member of Trafford AC.
He has been in record-breaking form all year, setting a new British indoor best for the 400m in Birmingham in February (49.35) just a week after breaking the world indoor 200m record (21.71s) in the same city. His next big event is the European Veterans Championships in Hungary this July.
