JEFF McQueen guided West Cheshire AC’s men to victory at the fifth round of the Borders Road Running League.

The over-40 veteran clocked 29min 36sec on the 5.2-mile course at Mold to finish 15th and help the Ellesmere Port-based club to top spot in the men’s team race.

Jeff Kettle was 21st in 30:01, ahead of Andrew Clague (31st, 30:41), Andrew Starkey (37th, 30:58), Ben Rees (54th, 32:02), Max Woods (80th, 34:25) and Neil Atkinson (82nd, 34:34).

McQueen and Clague are now second and third in the individual standings O40 men’s standings.

Starkey currently leads the O45s while Dave Tiernan is joint seventh, and Atkinson 10th.

Sacha Kendall-Woods was first home for West Chesh ire’s ladies, running 41:21 for fifth in the O35 ladies and 38th ladies position overall.

Kendall-Woods now lies fourth in the O35s standings after five rounds.

Julie Wood is seventh in the standings after finishing 13th senior lady and 43rd lady overall in 42:10.

Lisa Ayling was 10th in the O35s and 54th overall in 44:12 and Kath Osborne is third in the O60s table after finishing as third O60 and 64th overall in 48:22.

Dave Alexander was ninth senior man (41:35) in the UK Inter Counties Cross Country Championships at Birmingham’s Cofton Park.

He finished 207th overall for Cheshire while Chris Goodwin secured a time of 21:49 for 207th position in the under 17s race.

Grace O’Rourke finished 212th with a time of 34:54 in the senior ladies race and Amy Hinchly completed the U13 girls event in 199th (12:57).

Entries are still being accepted for the Chester Spring Five Miles Road Race at Upton, Chester, on Wednesday, April 7.

Fixtures this weekend include the final round of the West Cheshire AC Open Schools’ Cross Country series at Stanney Oaks, Ellesmere Port (10am) and the English Schools’ Cross Country Championships at Heaton Park, Manchester, both on Saturday.

West Cheshire AC is hosting a throws skills training session at Stanney Oaks on Sunday (11am-2.30pm) costing £1.20 for children, £2.40 for adults.
