KELLY BAKER has powered her way to a regional title.

The West Cheshire AC thrower grabbed glory in the under 20 women’s shot put at the Northern Indoor Championships in Sheffield.

Baker, who lives in Little Sutton and is a student at Bishops’ High School in Chester, hit a winning put of 11.68m to claim her gold medal.

Club-mate Olivia Montez-Brown finished fourth in the U20 women’s long jump with 5.27m, and Danielle Erskine was sixth with 5.14m.

Chris Goodwin represented West Cheshire AC in the U20 men’s 800m final and clocked two minutes 5.51 seconds for fourth spot.

Zac Barnsley posted a new U17 men’s 60m personal best of 7.34 seconds in a heat before finishing seventh in the final with 7.38 seconds. He also competed in the 200m and posted a new personal best of 23.88 seconds.

His sister, Alice, finished third in her heat of the U15 girls 60m with 8.59 seconds, and then posted 8.62 for seventh place in her semi-final.

Matthew Pagan won his U17 men’s 400m heat with a time of 53.74 seconds, but was then disqualified in the semi final because he stepped out of his lane.

Christian Okeke achieved sixth position in his men’s 60m heat with a time of 7.67 seconds.

Andrew Starkey headed West Cheshire AC’s contingent at the latest round of the Borders Road Running League, staged at Birkenhead Park.

Starkey finished 31st in 32 minutes 28 seconds, followed by Jeff McQueen (34th in 32:35); Mark Davies (36th in 32:52); Andrew Clague (37th in 32:54); Neil Hershaw (46th in 33:17); Rob Little (66th in 33:59); Dave Tiernan (83rd in 34:38); Robert Freeman (90th in 34:52); Joe Foy (112th in 36:01); Alec Jervis (114th in 36:13); Steve Cunningham (123rd in 36:37); Richard Batterham (181st in 39:22); Tony Kennedy (197th in 40:15); Dave Hough (198th in 40:19); Lisa Davies (28th lady and 212th overall in 41:06); Mike Perchard (241st in 43:17); Brian Beattie (267th in 45:41); and Ian Cook (295th in 55:11).

Rory Willson and Jim Jones represented West Cheshire AC at the Manchester Area Cross Country League match staged at Boggart Hole Clough. Willson was 27th with a time of 17:34 in the U13 boys race and Jones posted 52:55 for 45th position in the over-45 men’s age group. He was 178th overall in the men’s race.

Brian Beattie headed the Cheshire over-65 men’s age group ranking list in 2012 for the marathon.

Fixtures this weekend include the third round of the Essar West Cheshire AC Schools Cross Country Race Series at Stanney Oaks Leisure Centre on Saturday (10am start first race); the Cheshire County Schools Cross Country Championships at Reaseheath, Nantwich on Saturday; and the Essar Four Villages Half Marathon on Sunday (11am start).
