HALTON and Frodsham Harriers athletes represented their county with distinction on Saturday.

The club had nine members in action for Cheshire teams at the North West Regional Sportshall Under 13 and U15 Finals.

They faced strong opposition from county teams from Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Isle of Man and Merseyside at Robin Park Sports Centre, Wigan.

Cheshire’s U13 boys, U15 girls and U15 boys teams came out on top – meaning they go through to the National Final at the NEC in Birmingham in April.

Cheshire’s U13s girls just missed out on taking the honours in their competition, finishing second overall.

Halton and Frodsham athletes Ellie Tron and Grace Wilding were in the U13 girls team, Ellie taking a eighth place in the four-lap sprint in 55.1 seconds and ninth in the vertical jump with 41cm. Grace was seventh in the long jump with a best leap of 2m.

Harriers members Jacob Birtles, James Ennis, Chris Larkin, Luca Tron and Luke Southerton were in the Cheshire U13 boys team and were in medal-winning form.

In the six-lap race, Jacob took the bronze medal for a third place in one minute and 19 seconds and in the speed bounce was placed seventh with a score of 71.
