A MEMBER of West Cheshire AC is celebrating a regional indoor championship victory.

Thrower Emily Ball powered her way to the Midland Counties Shot Put Championship title at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena, with put of 9.68m.

Emily, 15, is ranked 17th in the UK indoor under 17 women’s shot put ranking list.

The youngster, who travels from Oswestry to regularly train at Stanney Oaks in Ellesmere Port, is currently preparing for another memorable campaign.

Emily joined West Cheshire AC team-mate Georgia Barlow at the weekend and earned the Cheshire Under 15 girls team top spot in the North West Regional Sportshall Championships.

The pair were joined at the fixture in Wigan by club colleagues Zac Barnsley, James McMahon and Matthew Pagan, who earned the Cheshire U15 boys a team victory.

West Cheshire’s Taylor Kearns was a member of the winning Cheshire U13 boys squad, while the West Cheshire duo of Sophie Hemingbrough and Alice Barnsley earned Cheshire U13 girls second team position.

Mark Davies was West Cheshire’s first finisher at the Village Bakery Wrexham Half Marathon, posting 84 minutes 21 seconds for 57th position.

He was joined at the event by club-mates Robert Little (96th in 87:30), Bob Freeman (fifth over 55 man and 110th overall in 89:05), Luke Ellis (135th in 92:08), Jim Jones (198th in 98:47), Rob Cummings (202nd in 99:00), Tony Kennedy (230th in 101:48) and Brian Beattie (fourth over-65 man and 321st overall in 112:00).

Several West Cheshire AC members will be travelling to Herrington Park, Sunderland, for this Saturday’s English National Cross Country Championships.

Fixtures this weekend include the England U15, U17 and U20 Indoor Track and Field Championships at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena.

Forthcoming fixtures include the North West Sportshall League Final, on Sunday, March 3, at Kingsway Leisure Centre, Widnes.
