A MEMBER of West Cheshire AC is celebrating a regional indoor championship victory.
Thrower Emily Ball powered her way to the Midland Counties Shot Put Championship title at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena, with put of 9.68m.
Emily, 15, is ranked 17th in the UK indoor under 17 women’s shot put ranking list.
The youngster, who travels from Oswestry to train at the Stanney Oaks track in Ellesmere Port, is currently preparing for what she hopes will be another memorable campaign.
Emily joined West Cheshire AC team-mate Georgia Barlow at the weekend and earned the Cheshire U15 girls team top spot in the North West Regional Sportshall Championships.
The pair were joined at the fixture in Wigan by West Cheshire’s Zac Barnsley, James McMahon and Matthew Pagan, who earned the Cheshire U15 boys a team victory.
West Cheshire AC’s Taylor Kearns was a member of the winning Cheshire U13 boys squad, while the West Cheshire duo of Sophie Hemingbrough and Alice Barnsley earned Cheshire U13 girls second team position.
Mark Davies was West Cheshire AC’s first finisher at the Village Bakery Wrexham Half Marathon, posting 84 minutes 21 seconds for 57th position.
He was joined at the event by club colleagues Robert Little (96th in 87:30), Bob Freeman (fifth over 55 man and 110th overall in 89:05), Luke Ellis (135th in 92:08), Jim Jones (198th in 98:47), Rob Cummings (202nd in 99:00), Tony Kennedy (230th in 101:48) and Brian Beattie (fourth over-65 man and 321st overall in 112:00).
Several West Cheshire AC members will be travelling to Herrington Park, Sunderland, for Saturday's English National Cross Country Championships. Hannah Bissell has entered the U13 girls race scheduled to start at 12.15pm, while Jac Goodall and Christy Mageean line up for the U13 boys event at 2.05pm, and the trio of Dave Alexander, Andrew Clague and Dave Hough tackle the senior men’s race which starts at 3pm.
West Cheshire AC will host a Year Seven inter-counties schools cross country match at Stanney Oaks leisure centre on Thursday, March 14.
Fixtures this weekend include the England U15, U17 and U20 Indoor Track and Field Championships at Birmingham’s NIA.
Forthcoming fixtures include the North West Sportshall League Final on Sunday, March 3 at Kingsway Leisure.
