Athletes from Ellesmere Port played their part in a successful weekend for Cheshire at the English Schools Track and Field Championships.

The county team won three major trophies for the Group B section – the junior girls team prize, senior girls team prize, and the Aggregate Trophy for both boys and girls performances.

The event was hosted at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

Whitby High pupil Sophie Percival launched the intermediate girls javelin to 36.78m for sixth place, while Olivia Montez-Brown of West Cheshire College achieved sixth spot in the senior girls long jump (5.28m), Little Sutton resident Kelly Baker, who attends Bishops’ High School in Chester, hit 11.71m for fourth position in the senior girls shot, and Jenni Potter of Neston High finished 11th with 38.19m in the senior girls hammer.

Alice McMahon of Ellesmere Port Catholic High posted 12.47 seconds in her senior girls 100m heat.

Athletes from the Chester area who performed well included Amy Williams, who won gold in the intermediate triple jump with a championship best performance of 12.22m.

Emily Ball, of West Cheshire AC, represented Shropshire and finished seventh with 35.47m in the intermediate girls discus competition.
