Athletics: Double medal glory for Russell Kirk at Northern Vets Track and Field Championships

RUSSELL Kirk has secured two title-winning performances.

The West Cheshire AC member celebrated victories in both the over-50 men’s 400m and 800m finals at the Northern Vets Track and Field Championships, held at Leigh Sports Village.

Kirk, who clocked 35 minutes 45 seconds at a 9km Borders Road Running League race earlier this year, has seen all his speed work training at the Stanney Oaks track paying dividends.

James Jones and Julie Wood represented West Cheshire at the Llandudno 10 miles road race. Jones finished 222nd in 76:41, and Wood was 57th lady in 81:22.

Luke Ellis was the first West Cheshire finisher at the Mersey Tunnel 10k road race. He posted 42:57 seconds for 244th spot.

Steven Cunningham led the way for West Cheshire at the first race of the Deestriders Off Road Grand Prix series, finishing 16th in 36:50.

West Cheshire duo Dave Alexander and Cameron Weaver have scored success at Abersoch.

Alexander won the over 40 men’s prize after finishing sixth overall in the 10k race in 34:36, and Weaver won the first under 14 boys prize in the 3k race after clocking 12:48.

Laura Bestow represented West Cheshire in the 10k race and finished fifth lady in a time of 38:03.
