A SMALL army of 33 Chester Triathlon Club members tackled the Chester Spring 5.

Leading the club’s contingent home at the Cheshire County Sports Club in Upton last Wednesday was Duncan Harris in 14th. He beat club colleague Peter Brook (15th) home by just six seconds.

Dave Taylor, Chris Morgan, Claire Sutcliffe, Carole Coole, Nathalie Rees and Janet Morgan all finished in the top 10 in their categories.

In Sunday’s penultimate Borders League race, four Chester Tri runners finished in the top 10, with Chris Prior leading the way in fourth.

The excellent performances meant Chester Tri’s men’s team topped Division Two with a 429-point lead over second-placed Ellesmere Port. They look set for promotion, with the veterans doing almost as well, lying second in their division.

Despite some strong individual performances – with Gill Mead third woman and first in the FV45 class – the women are still not assured of staying up.
