BRYONY Potter sprinted into the spotlight at the English Schools’ Track and Field Championships.
The Little Sutton sprinter was representing Merseyside and clinched fifth position in the senior girls 200m final with a time of 25.56 seconds at Sheffield’s Don Valley Stadium.
West Cheshire AC member Bryony, who attends Wirral Grammar, clocked a time of 25.6 seconds for fifth place in her qualifying heat.
Teammate Kelly Baker, from Whitby High School hit 9.62m in the junior girls shot to secure 11th position.
Alice McMahon (Ellesmere Port Catholic High), also competing in the junior girls group, clocked a new personal best of 25.55 seconds, a National Standard time, but was forced to pull out of the final due to a hamstring injury.
Ellesmere Port-based Danielle Bentley, of Whitby High, secured second place in the intermediate girls javelin competition with a throw of 42.94m.
David McKay was at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham for the World Trials and UK Championships and finished seventh with a throw of 65.18m in the senior men’s javelin competition.
West Cheshire AC’s under 11 boys and girls squads grabbed glory at the second round of the Cheshire Track and Field League at Ashton-under-Lyne.
The boys who tasted success included Conor Rowbottom (75m, 600m and long jump), Thomas Harrop (75m, 600m and javelin), Lewis Sconce (javelin), Elijah Montez-Brown (long jump) and Matthew Bate (75m).
For the girls victories came from Georgia Barlow (75m and long jump), Sophie Baker (javelin), Toni Lammond (600m) and Rosie Webber (75m).
The boys 4x100m relay team of Montez-Brown, Bate, Harrop and Rowbottom were just beaten on the line while Baker, Barlow, Lammond and Webber powered their way to an easy win in 65.9sec for the girls.
West Cheshire AC’s men’s and women’s teams were both second behind host club East Cheshire.
Senior ladies Niamh Riley and Emily Clarke took first place in both the A and B shot put with Danielle Erskine winning the B 200m race.
Michael Bailiff produced a superb grade one leap of 1.70m in the U15 boys high jump.
Yousef Khalifa and newcomer Charlie Thomas were second in the A and B shot put.
Michael Williams the only West Cheshire performer in the U17s. He won the shot with 10.47m.
For the U15 girls, Olivia Montez-Brown leapt to victory while Emma Johnson and Lauren Darch were second in the 4x100m relay.
James McMahon leapt to a new personal best performance in the U13 boys long jump competition, with team mates Chris Harrop and Daniel Vickers winning in the 75m series of races.
Fixtures this weekend include the final round of the Young Athletes Track and Field League for West Cheshire AC at Carlisle on Sunday.
A coach has been booked for athletes and officials and places must be booked in advance. Those travelling should assemble at Cheshire Oaks High School at 7.30am.
Other fixtures include the Packwood 10k on Friday night, the Burtonwood Five Miles Road Race at Warrington, on Saturday and the West Cheshire AC Endurance Running Meeting, on Tuesday, July 21, at Cheshire County Sports Club, Upton (8.30pm start).
