DAVE Alexander has been leading by example on road and over country in recent weeks.

The talented West Cheshire AC distance runner secured 201st position at the Inter Counties Cross Country Championships, at Nottingham.

He represented Cheshire in the senior men’s event and negotiated the Wollaton Park course with a time of 43 minutes and 52 seconds. He was fifth home for the county team.

Dave has also demonstrated his turn of speed on the road after finishing the latest Borders Road Running League race in a time of 27:34.

He secured 12th place overall after completing the undulating five-mile course from Mold Sports Centre, and captured West Cheshire AC’s first counting position in the team competition.

Dave is also helping to organise the popular Chester Spring Five Miles Road Race, being hosted by West Cheshire AC from the Cheshire County Sports Club, Upton, Chester, on Wednesday, April 2 (7pm start).

The race has an entry limit of 400, but entries will be accepted on the night of the race if the limit has not been reached.

West Cheshire AC open their track and field campaign next month.

The club will compete in the Cheshire League, Young Athletics League Northern Premier Division, Northern Seniors League Division Two and the National Under 20s Junior League Mersey Division.

Purple-vested members will head for Stockport’s Woodbank Park for the opening round of the Cheshire League on Sunday, April 20.

Stanney Oaks Track, Ellesmere Port, will be the setting for the opening round of the National U20s Junior League on Sunday, April 27, which will feature members of West Cheshire representing the composite team of Cheshire Tigers.

West Cheshire will host their opening round of the Northern Senior League at Stanney Oaks on Saturday, May 3 and the club will start their Young Athletes League Northern Premier Division season at Blackburn on Sunday, May 4.

Stanney Oaks will be the setting for the two-day Cheshire Track and Field County Championships on Saturday and Sunday, May 10 and 11, while West Cheshire will travel to Litherland for their second-round match in the Young Athletes League on May 18.

Bebington Oval will be the venue for the club’s National Junior League second round on May 25, and Bebington is also the venue for round three of the Young Athletes League on June 1.

Wavertree, Liverpool, will host the second round of the Northern League on June 7, which continues at Carlisle on July 6 and concludes at Litherland on August 3.

The final two fixtures in the Young Athletes League will take place at Sheffield on June 22, and at Hull on July 20.

And Cheshire Tigers will complete their National Junior League campaign with a trip to Liverpool Pembroke Sefton on June 29 and a visit to Deeside on July 27.

West Cheshire’s other Cheshire League matches are scheduled to be held at Stanney Oaks (July 13), Bebington Oval (August 10) and at Stanney Oaks (September 7).

Fixtures this weekend include the Wilmslow Half Marathon on Sunday (10.30am start) and the TuffNutz 11 mile Team Challenge at Thurstaston, also on Sunday (11am start).
