CYCLING: DAVE Astles, one of Weaver Valley CC's stalwarts, made his comeback after a two-year absence for health reasons in the League International Road Race at Withington, Manchester, in midweek.

Along with Graham Gregory and Mark Thompson, he contested the Over 50s event, with Rob Dacey going in the 40 to 49s category.

Conditions were slippery and occasionally treacherous, but all 40 starters remained in the saddle.

Dacey was 10th and winning 40-49s time was 66 minutes.

In the 50s race, Gregory was unlucky to get pipped on the line and settled for fifth place, and Thompson and Astles finished strongly to claim 13th and 15th positions. The race was won in 67 minutes.

Sunday's club run leaves for Prees Heath, Whitchurch, at 9.30am. Club nights continue at Moss Farm SC on Mondays (8.30) and newcomers are welcome at both events.
