SIXTEEN-year-old Ashley Lewis claimed victory in the Hampton Springs Fishery Sunday open match.

He took carp and chub for 51-12-0, beating Keith Bean with 43-8-0 and Charlie Mayers with 42-8-0.

Martin Churchill won Hampton Springs’ Saturday open match with a carp catch of 57-8-0, edging out Gary Bough with 56-12-0 and Phil Barwell on 44-2-0.

The opening day in the Heronbrook Fishery Spring League brought varying fortunes for Chester teams.

Chester Tackle Locker were the highest placed in fifth, led by Mark Pleavin who came second individually with a carp-based 57-12-0. Jamie Hughes bolstered the total with 25-8-0 and Gary Bough pitched in with 24-0-0.

Fisherman’s Tackle, meanwhile, settled for a position in the middle of the field, Phil Henry leading them with 15-4-0, Steve Openshaw adding 50-4-0 and Winston Duckers netting 7-8-0.

There will be an open match on Easter Monday at Hampton Springs, drawing at 9am.

The Cheshire Police AC match went to Mark Greasley at Hampton Springs’ rock pool. Weighing in with carp at 37-1-0, he saw off Andy Smith with 33-2-0 and Ron Whitehead with 29-8-0.

North West Fly Fishers headed to Onny Bale Fishery in Shropshire for Sunday’s match. The winner, based on the number of fish caught, was Rob Powell with 18, just beating Brian Harvey with 17 and Harold Jannion with 15.

Kevin Williams won the midweek Tuesday Rovers AC match at Hampton Springs Fishery.

A net of carp and barbel weighing 34-4-0 beat Chris Diamond with 27-4-0 and Phil Barwell with 26-10-0.

Mark Beales landed top spot in Airbus AC’s match on the Weston Pools Fishery in Oswestry. Carp and barbel for 49-0-0 was too good for Jason Rogers with 30-4-0 and Mal Dawes with 25-4-0.

Gary Cross was the front runner in the Lobol AC match on their priory pool. He brought in carp and tench to weigh 12-9-0 and beat Barry Carlson with bream weighing 8-7-0 and Danny Boothroyd with 6-2-0.

Ian Leather tanned the hides of his rivals in the Holt and Farndon AC match on the River Dee at Holt. Chub roach and dace added up to 20-0-0, greater than Reg Williams’ 15-10-10 and Dave Bithell’s 15-0-0.

The Cheshire Fishery Cup went to Jack Thompson for winning the Mickle Trafford AC match at the venue.

A brace of rainbows tipped the scales at 5-15-0 including the best fish of the day, a 3-0-0 trout taken to a black fritz.

Second was Robert Vickers with a brace for 5-4-0 and third was Steve Antrobus with 4-9-0.
