ELTON youngster Stephen Wilkinson had a great day’s fishing at Cheshire Fishing, Tattenhall.
The 16-year-old landed a lovely 12lbs 8oz ghostie along with eight other common carp of various sizes using a sauce boilie.
Tony Crank, of Tattenhall, took the best fish of the week, a stunning 20lb common carp caught on Spam on the bottom. Another memorable catch was recorded by Frodsham’s Paul Davies. He made effective use of pineapple flavour surface superlite floaters to take a great 13lb mirror carp.
As well as fishing off the bottom with pellet, Davies netted a total of 75lbs of fish. Hoole’s Ben Furmston also had a good day, weighing in with an excess of 60lbs. He took roach weighing up to 1lb 6oz, bream of up to 4lbs and carp near the 6lbs mark on a mixture of strawberry meat and corn.
Lake Hill Fishery, Llandegla, hosted Mickle Trafford AC for their monthly match on Sunday. Top rod was Kevin Quayle, of Upton, with a brace of rainbows weighing 7lbs 5oz taken on a green and white cat’s whisker. Mickle Trafford angler Alan Bell landed a single fish of 5lbs 10oz for second on a viva muddler. Third place went to Jack Thomson, of Upton, with a 1lbs 14oz rainbow. The heaviest fish of the match, 5lbs 15oz, was caught by Kevin Quayle.
Chester’s Rake and Pikel AC competed at Hampton Springs. Huntington’s Pete Griffiths was top rod with 35lbs 8oz from peg 27. Gary White, of Wallasey, netted just a few more carp to take second with 20lbs ahead of Saughall’s Paul Edwards with 19lbs.
Cheshire Police AC were in action on Willow Pool of Hampton Springs Fishery last Thursday, when Ellesmere Port’s Mark Greasley managed a good second with 37lb 8oz.
Sunday’s Open at Leeswood Fishery was staged on the Horseshoe Lake. Broughton angler Kevin Thornton produced a superb 45lbs 3oz to win by some margin. Fishing worm over caster on peg eight, he weighed in a number of chub and carp.
Anglers from across the area are invited to fish a charity competition entitled ‘Combat Stress’ at The Trap, Buckley, this Sunday. Proceeds will go to war veterans.
