AN Elton angler was victorious when Rivacre Angling Club staged its first match of the season at Conwy Fisheries.

The silvers competition yielded some great weights of fish with Rob Dickinson finishing as top rod.

He bagged a good 34lb of roach and skimmers, fishing the pole with maggot at 10m to see off his nearest rival Ian Simpson.

Simpson had to settle for second with 32lb of similar fish, also taken at 10m. Third place went to Chester’s Phil Jones with 29lb of roach, skimmers and tench that fell to maggot.

Tattenhall’s Simon Knibbs finished third in Sunday’s Holywell AC match on Tre-mostyn Pool. He took mainly roach with a total weight of 5lb.

Knibbs also put in a good performance in the Saturday Open match at Hampton Springs Fishery. Drawn on peg 10 of Rock pool, he weighed in with 30lb 4oz of carp.

Cheshire Fishing, Tattenhall, has produced some good bags for pleasure anglers.

Hoole angler Robin Silby netted a 50lb bag of carp to 6lb, roach to 1lb 8oz and a few bream of up to 4lb.Using a mixture of corn, meat and pellet, Upton coarse angler John Taylor netted carp of up to 8lb and decent silvers to finish his session with a total of 45lb.

Frodsham Fly angler Godfrey Hulse claimed the best return of fish this week at Treetops Fishery. Using a weighted black nymph fished deep, Godfrey landed three superb rainbows weighing 8lb 5oz, 5lb 10oz and 5lb 6oz from the Twin Island Pool.
