UPTON AC travelled to Pool Lodge Fishery, Whitchurch, for their club match on Saturday and it proved to be a very successful trip, writes Rob Allen.

John Woodrow not only won the match in fine style, but also broke the club record, tipping the scales with a massive 158lbs 8oz haul.

The Blacon angler took plenty of fish, including carp of up to 7lbs using corn. Second-placed Geoff Dentich of Hoole produced an excellent weight of 139lbs.

Lingmere Fishery, Moreton, staged the club match of Chester Royal Mail AC on Sunday.

The match went right to the wire and was clinched by Phil Roberts (40lbs 14oz) with a single bream just before the whistle. Charlie Cook of Blacon missed out with his 40lbs 4oz bag of carp and barbel using pellet and corn 16m to the island.

Members of Thursday Rovers AC competed on the banks of Rock Pool and Long Island, Hampton Springs. Chris Diamond won the match by quite some margin with an impressive 91lbs 12oz. Peg 18 of Long Island produced 51lbs 12oz of crucians taken on pellet for Waverton’s Julian Tatton.

The Wepre Pool fished a little better than it has of late in the Connah’s Quay AC Sunday club match. Phil Hardman, of Upton, landed four carp for a combined weight of 40lbs 10oz to win. Saughall’s Dave Bampton finished second with 15lbs 4oz.

Sunday’s open match at Leeswood proved to be close with just over 1lb of fish separating the best three weights. The eventual winner was Alan Murray of Connah’s Quay by just 7oz. Alan fished peg 15 using pellet waggler to weigh in with 41lbs 7oz. Chester’s Frank Doran took second spot with 41lbs from peg 35, closely followed by Steve Norman on peg 7 with 40lbs 8oz.

The fly fishermen of Mickle Trafford AC had a good morning fishing in their match at Lake Hill Fishery.

Richard Roberts from Upton won with two rainbows with a combined weight of 4lbs 4oz taken to a red spider. Second-placed John Chamberlain, from Mickle Trafford, used a Montana for his two fish of 4lbs 2oz. Alan Bell, also from Mickle Trafford, landed two rainbows of 3lb 12oz on a white muddler for third.
