OAKLANDS AC tackled some tough opposition to catch some impressive weights at Pool Lodge.

Blacon’s John Woodrow took top spot, bagging an impressive 64lb of small carp on corn at 4m.

In windy conditions, Mike Lewis of Waverton took a bag of crucians weighing 54lb 8oz for second ahead of Geoff Dentith, of Hoole, who netted 31lb 8oz for third.

Chester Tackle Locker’s Gary Vincent was in superb form in the Thursday Rovers match at Hampton Springs Fishery. Vincent, drawn on peg 29 of Rock Pool, bagged carp and barbel on a variety of different baits weighing 67lb 12oz for victory.

The Lache’s Dave Gentile finished as top rod in the Wirral Borough AC ‘away’ match at Conwy Fisheries. Sixteen anglers enjoyed great sport with over 400lb of fish caught of which 350lb were silvers.

Gentile netted carp weighing up to 8lb along with roach using 4mm soft pellet, feeding the same to tip the scales at 42lb 12oz for the win.

There was a great win for Julian Tatton at Hampton Springs in Saturday’s Open match. The Chester Tackle Locker member fished Alice Springs with caster on the pole for roach and perch. Tatton, from Waverton, out-fished his rivals netting a victorious 22lb 4oz of fish.

Cheshire Police AC held last Thursday’s match on Poplars at Hampton Springs. Blacon’s Andy Smith put in a good performance amid difficult conditions to finish in second place. Smith drew a newly appointed peg on the pool weighing in with 18lb of small carp with pellet.

Members of Mickle Trafford Fishing Club took to the banks of Wal Goch fishery, Nannerch, on Sunday to compete for the Millennium Cup.

The water threw up plenty of good-sized trout and Upton’s fly ace Arthur Gillam continued his good form, taking the silverware and a turkey with a splendid brace of rainbows weighing 11lb 10oz. Despite catching the heaviest fish of 6lb 8oz, Upton lure supremo Kev Quayle couldn’t quite better Gillam.

Quayle also bagged a 5lb trout to add to his brace that fell to a damsel nymph and had to settle for second.

Fly fishing at Cheshire Fishing, Tattenhall, continues to produce some splendid rainbow trout. The best catch was taken by John Hodkinson, who landed a monster trout that fell to a buzzer weighing in at a staggering 10lb 12oz.
