BILLY Gore put in a good performance to win the Rivacre AC match staged on the banks of the River Weaver on Saturday.
The water along the National stretch of the river was in excellent condition but windy weather made it difficult for competitors.
Gore won it with a mixed bag of 4lbs 4oz taken on long pole and maggot. Ted Neil, of Ellesmere Port, also weighed in with a mixed bag of 4lbs to secure second spot, followed by Harry Gittins in third with 2lbs of bits taken on long pole and maggot.
The Wirral Winter League continued on the banks of the Trent and Mersey Canal at Middlewich at the weekend.
The best individual catch was recorded by Dave Harper of Willaston Blacks. He caught two chub on caster weighing 6lbs ahead of Cheshire Match Group’s Phil Cross with 4lbs 11oz (165 fish made up of gudgeon and roach). Paul Beeston, of Betley’s team, was in third, bagging 4lbs 3oz.
Further positions were very close indeed and placed Willaston Reds top of the league after three matches. Cheshire Match Group lie in fifth spot with some way to go.
