CHESTER’S Mike Hill grabbed third place in Saturday’s Airbus Coarse Angling Section Winter League Match at Weston Pools, Oswestry.

Competing on the Canal Pool, Hill bagged a mixture of mirror and common carp from peg 48 with long pole and corn for 24lb 3oz.

Shaun Sandham led the way with a good 51lb 12oz and Graham Peabody (32lb 8oz) was second.

Upton’s Martin Holden was top rod in Tuesday’s open match at Tarvin Sands Fishery, bagging all carp for 29lb 8oz for victory. Next best was Chris Hardigan from Alvanley on peg 21. Chris also took all carp totalling 28lb 8oz with bread on the tip. Les Picken (18lb 10oz) was third.

Members of Saughall Greyhound AC were in action at Cheshire Fishing, Tattenhall, at the weekend. Top rod on Pool Five was Blacon’s Stu Lennon with 10lb 4oz. Fellow Blacon angler Mark Mealing weighed in with 8lb 6oz for joint second place. Don Sexton from Saughall was also tied in second. Third went to John Jones (6lb 6oz) from Blacon.

Last week’s Commoners AC match was staged on Fox Lake at Lloyds Meadow where ice hampered the fishing. Dave Furlong from Vicars Cross needed just 5lb 6oz for the win. John Sturgess bagged all roach for a level 3lb to take second spot. Two carp totalling 2lb 2oz provided Bert Connolly with third.

Local anglers have enjoyed some good sport at Cheshire Fishing. Blacon’s Paul Roberts took mixed carp of up to 6lb and silvers to 8oz totalling 35lb. Barry Taylor bagged around 40lb during his session.
