MARK Greasley had to settle for second spot when Cheshire Police AC held their club match last Thursday on Willow Pool at Hampton Springs.

Drawn on peg 32, Neil Jukes alternated red maggot and meat to take the win with 64lbs of carp. Ellesmere Port’s Greasley was next with a 57lbs 8oz bag of mainly barbel using meat from peg 27.

Lobol AC held their last match of the season this Sunday on the banks of the Shropshire Union canal at Waverton. Linda Cook was top rod on the day with 3lbs 1oz of small roach, gudgeon and skimmers taken on a variety of baits. Three competitors – Barrie Carlson, Ian Courtney and Peter Cook – claimed joint second place with 2lbs 9oz of roach and gudgeon. Lobol’s Winter League begins on November 2.

There have been two open matches at Lingmere Fishery, Moreton, this week. Alan Dewhurst won on Thursday with a mixture of carp and barbel weighing 50lbs, taken down the edge of peg 19 with worm. Pellet produced carp for the next best weights. Owner Steve Openshaw weighed in with 36lbs 2oz of carp from peg 9, followed by Andy Kirk with 23lbs 8oz from peg five.

Dewhurst repeated his good performance on Thursday with another great win on Saturday. He was well ahead of the field with a good 53lbs 12oz of carp from peg 20.

Fish ‘O’ Mania finalist Jamie Hughes managed 32lbs 14oz of carp on pellet from peg 31. Third spot went to Dave Lawrence, drawn on peg 11 with 26lbs 4oz

Wirral Winter League practice matches are now underway. Competitors fished the Shropshire Union Canal at Stoak Picton on Sunday. Trevor Jackson took four decent bream and skimmers for the win, with a final weight of 10lbs. Alan Culley weighed in second with 5lbs 9oz of roach and skimmers, followed by Gary Green with 5lb 5oz. There were not very many fish caught, but heavier specimen tipped the scales in the end.
