AN angler from Ellesmere Port was top rod when Wirral Borough AC held a match at Old Hough Fishery, near Winsford, on Saturday.

Jeff Grantham bagged around 80 small F1s, crucian carp, chub, barbel and roach, weighing in with a cocktail of fish for 29lbs 6oz. From his peg on the Lucky Dip Lake, the Port ace fed caster in two swims.

He then fed worm and maggot over the top with the same on the hook throughout the match for his winning weight.

Rick Keeley was next up with 18lbs 12oz. He had to fish short pole at around 7m due to the wind and, with double maggot, he netted two good chub along with further small skimmer bream and roach.

Whitby match angler Geoff Selby was in good form in the Lobol AC match at Lower Ridge Farm, Saughall on Sunday.

Selby weighed in with an impressive 41lbs 10oz of F1s, ide, tench and small carp for the win. Next up was Peter Cooke with 32lbs 14oz of mainly F1s and ide along with a single eel that fell to similar bait.

Third place went to George Edwards, who netted F1s and ide for 31lbs 13oz.

Gwynne Maddocks, of Ellesmere Port, put in a good performance in difficult conditions at Cheshire Fishing in the Peg One AC match.

Maddocks braved the wind and rain to finish a close second on Pool Two, bagging carp and bream in the 1-2lb bracket for a total of 24lbs 10oz.

Only a few fish more made the difference for Chester’s Dave Gentile as he was victorious with similar fish for 25lbs 8oz.

Garry Turner bagged one of the best catches of the week at Cheshire Fishing. During his session, he netted a total of 80lbs.With pole-fished meat and corn he lured seven carp to the net, the best being 12lbs.

A further 16 roach of up to 1lb and good 6lbs bream came to the net for the Great Sutton pleasure angler.
