A CHARITY match in aid of Claire House Children’s Hospice raised nearly £2,500 on Sunday when members of Rivacre AC, Wirral Borough AC and Egremont Ferry competed at Fir Tree Fisheries, Standish.

Eight anglers from each club featured in sections of three and 500lb of fish was caught.

Top rod on the day was Ellesmere Port’s Ian Lloyd with 33lb 10oz. He made use of corn and pellet in the margins and then at 16m for carp in the 1-1lb 8oz bracket.

Members of Rivacre AC were in action at Heronbrook Fisheries, Staffordshire, on Saturday. Competing on Meadow Pool, Steve Brew bagged a superb 100lb 12oz for victory. Brew drew peg 34 and opted to use meat and pellet on long pole and in the margins. He brought mirror and common carp along with F1s of up to 8lb for the win. Next best was Billy Gore (58lb 4oz), while Dougie Walsh (53lb) was third.

Pleasure angler John Owens bagged one of the best weights of the week at Cheshire Fishing, Tattenhall. Owens, from Little Sutton, fished Pool Two, bringing six carp to the net, his best a lovely 13lb 4oz. He also netted mixed roach and skimmers using red maggot and strawberry corn baits to end his session with around 80lb in total.
