Openshaw weighed in with 57lbs 8oz of barbel, taken on meat fished on the pole in the margins of peg 18. Jamie Swain wasn’t too far behind in second, taking 55lbs 2oz of carp and barbel, and Bob Evans took third place with a mixed bag weighing 40lb 4oz.

Members of Connah’s Quay AC travelled to Bala Lake to compete in their match on Sunday. Difficult conditions for the anglers meant that catches were low.

The eventual winner was Connah’s Quay angler Brian Hoer with a bag of roach weighing 6lb 12oz taken on the tip with maggot.

Second-placed Dave Hodson, also from Connah’s Quay, took 5lb 13oz of roach and Upton’s Martin Holden weighed in with 4lb 15oz of roach for third spot.
