JEFF Grantham and Jason Connor fished an excellent match to finish first and second respectively in Wirral Borough AC’s match on the Specimen Lake at Larford Fishery this weekend.

Ellesmere Port’s Grantham won by some margin taking 25lbs of skimmers and roach on the deck.

After a switch to pellet, he then found success netting a good weight of carp to finish with 71lbs 12oz. Fellow Portite Connor took a mixed bag of carp and skimmers on pellet waggler to weigh in with 58lbs 10oz.

As well as a brilliant performance from the Port’s own anglers, the club also registered a record combined weight for a match of a staggering 752lbs.

Rob Denny put in a great performance in Sunday’s open match at Hampton Springs. The Ellesmere Port angler battled hard to take third spot among strong competition.

Drawn on peg 10 of Long Island, Denny weighed in with 54lbs 8oz of stockies, carp and tench taking fish on pellet and corn at 17m to the island and with corn in the margins.

Despite Denny’s efforts, it was Vale Royal Angling member Jamie Davies who finished top rod with a magnificent 83lbs 14oz of carp weighing up to 10lbs, barbel to 6lbs and tench to 4lbs on a mixture of meat and pellet at 8m and corn in the margins of peg 49 on Long Island. From peg 18 of the same pool, Widnes angler John Cheetham bagged 64lbs 10oz of carp weighing up to 12lbs on shallow pellet.

Members of Ellesmere Port Angling Club found things hard going in the heat at Home Farm Fishery near Crewe this weekend.

The winner, with 24lbs of carp on the tip with meat was Steve Bithall of Ellesmere Port.

Jimmy Crimes, also from the Port, continued his successful season taking second with a mixed bag of tench, carp, skimmers and rudd weighing 17lbs 15oz with pellet on the pole. Steve Matthews ran in third with another mixed bag of 12lbs.
