SPARKLING performances by two Ellesmere Port-based members of the Window Supplies team saw them finish in the top half of the latest Cudmore Fishery Winter League match.

Geoff Grantham had carp and tench weighing 17-8-0 and Ian Lloyd wasn’t far behind with 16-4-0. This lifted the team to sixth in the league.

Rod n’Reel improved their standing in the Northwich Winter League match on the River Weaver at Hartford. Tony Jones was the top weigher with skimmers and roach for 2-6-0, while John Warburton chipped in with 0-15-0 of bits. Their 10th place finish on the day lifted them to 10th overall.

Dave Woodworth was triumphant in the Thursday match at Lingmere Fishery. A mixed 13-14-0 put him clear of Geoff Barker with 13-8-0 and Dave Randles senior with 11-0-0.

Top rod in the Saturday match was Phil Roberts, putting carp and barbel on the scales to weigh 18-14-0 and see off Randles with mixed 14-4-0 and Steve Balson with 12-6-0.

Friday, February 22 sees the Wirral, Merseyside and District Carp Forum host an angling evening in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support nurses. It will be at the Bromborough Civic Hall between 7pm and 11pm and will feature Danny Fairbrass and the Korda team, trade stands and a raffle. There will also be an auction of a French carp fishing holiday worth more than £600.
