GRAHAM Bell did well but just missed out in the Sunday Open match at Leeswood Fishery.

Drawn on peg 29 on the Lake of Tranquility, Bell, from Ellesmere Port, finished in second place behind Chris Openshaw with 15lbs 2oz of carp and skimmers using maggot.

Openshaw had 26lbs of carp and skimmers taken on pellet. Ben Toplass continued his good form with third, netting 11lbs 9oz of carp and bream on maggot and pellet from peg 13.

Cheshire Police AC staged their club match on the Horseshoe Lake at Leeswood last Thursday. Ellesmere Port’s Mark Greasley attracted 22lbs 2oz of predominantly chub to maggot on the pole for the win. A mixed bag of small carp and chub weighing 18lbs gave John Booth second place.

Andy Kirk triumphed at Lingmere Fishery in Thursday’s open match.

He tipped the scales with 34lbs of carp on pellet from peg 20. Steve Openshaw weighed in second with 29lbs 8oz of carp from peg five. Third place on the day went to Steve Balson with a final weight of 26lbs 8oz.

Saturday’s open at Lingmere produced some larger weights. Alan Dewhurst was top rod with an impressive 51lbs 8oz of carp. Paul Phoenix’s 47lbs 8oz of carp gave him second ahead of Dave Lawrence with a mixture of carp and bream at 33lbs 4oz.
