GRAHAM Lewis claimed a solid victory in the Hampton Springs Fishery open match.

His carp-based 53-7-0 left Gary Bough trailing in second with 46-6-0 and Gary Vincent third with 33-9-0.

Mickle Trafford AC’s match at the Meadow Fishery was won by Alan Gardiner.

Three rainbows weighing 7-14-0 – including the best of the day, a 3-10-0 trout – were enough to see of Alan Edwards with three weighing 6-2-0, and Kevin Quayle with two for 4-2-0.

Terry Nolan netted most in the Lobol AC match on their Priory Pool.

Carp and skimmers weighing 7-0-0 saw off Ray Cossins with a mixed 4-4-0 and Peter Cooke with 3-15-0.

Dave Randles senior was top rod in the Thursday match at Lingmere Fishery. A carp and chub mix gave him a winning 32-0-0 to beat Tony Irvine with a mixed 30-14-0 ahead of Steve Openshaw with 27-0-0.

Openshaw won the Saturday match, however, taking a mixed 11-0-0 to lead Geoff Barker with 7-14-0 and Randles with 6-8-0.

Shaun Sandham triumphed in Tuesday Rovers AC’s match. Fishing on the Long Island Pool at Hampton Springs Fishery, he took a mixed 36-6-0, beating Les Picken with likewise for 31-12-0 and Mark Pleavin with all bits for 23-8-0.

With the River Weaver in flood Dave Spencer needed just 0-6-0 of small roach to win Rake and Pikel AC’s match on the Red Lion length. Jeff Williams came second with 0-4-0 and Jimmy Page third with 0-1-0.

The plaudits went to Tony Rigby when Chester Police Fly-fishers cast into the Walgoch Fishery at Nannerch. He put three rainbows on the scales for 12-8-0, beating Jim Fryer with likewise for 10-6-0 and David Hughes with four weighing just 8-10-0.

The best fish of the day was a 5-8-0 rainbow, taken by Joe Pemberton to a montanna.

FISHERIES REPORTS

Meadow: Paul Williamson bagged his best catch of the week, claiming two rainbows of 4-8-0 and 4-6-0 to a pheasant failed nymph. Barnie Reading coaxed a 7-8-0 rainbow to a white buzzer, while Ian Phillips tempted a 5-14-0 rainbow to a polly stickle.

Lake Hill: Paul Price bagged a total of 13 fish, his best rainbows weighing 4-8-0 and 3-0-0 respectively, all taken to a black nymph.
