ELLESMERE Port anglers enjoyed success in both matches on the new match canal at Tarvin Sands Fishery.

Rob Denny was in superb form in Saturday’s match, tipping the scales with an immense 128lbs 8oz haul of carp for the win. Portite Mark Greasley (41lbs 8oz) claimed second place in Tuesday’s ‘Cost-Cutter’ match behind Ian Hughes (47lbs 12oz), of Bebington.

Nick Roberts put in a good performance among stiff opposition in Sunday’s Open match at Hampton Springs Fishery in Malpas.

The Ellesmere Port angler drew peg 49 on Long Island and opted to fish meat over pellet in the margins of his peg. He bagged mainly mirror carp weighing up to 8lbs along with bream and tench to weigh in with 55lbs 2oz for third place.

Top spot went to Colin Shaw with exactly 63lbs of carp and barbel. The only other competitor to better Nick’s bag was Frank O’Reilly (57lbs 12oz), from Liverpool.

An unlucky Jason Connah had to be content with third place in Saturday’s Wirral Borough AC match at Baden Hall. The Port angler really should have won the match with plenty of fish in his swim. He netted exactly 20lb of carp to finish only a few fish behind the eventual winner, Ian Simpson.

Whitby’s Geoff Selby enjoyed himself in Wednesday’s Lobol AC Open match on the Priory Pool. He took second spot with a 12lbs 4oz bag of aide, crucians and skimmers that fell to pellet and worm.

Steve Hogg enjoyed a great day’s pleasure angling at Cheshire Fishing, Tattenhall. The Port angler took mirror carp weighing up to 16lbs and commons to 12lbs to finish with a super 70lbs bag.

Fly angler Billy Moore bagged 4lbs 10oz of rainbows for third place in the Mickle Trafford AC monthly match at Treetops Fishery on Sunday. The Little Sutton man used a weighted orange hopper to get down to the low lying trout.
