ROD ‘n’ Reel did enough to win the two open matches at Hampton Springs Fishery.

Lenny Bolton came in second with carp weighing 38-8-0 to boost his team’s score in the venue’s Saturday match.

Andy Amos then made second place in the Sunday match with carp weighing 53-0-0.

Rod were not so successful in the opening match of the Northwich Winter League, fished on the River Weaver. Their best effort came from Terry Jones who was second in his section with skimmers weighing 2-8-0. Brothers John and Jack Warburton each took 2-0-0 to help the team finish eighth on the day.

Ellesmere Port’s Mark Greasley took top honours in Sunday’s open match at Leeswood Fishery. His winning catch was a 22-4-0 haul of carp.

Alan Dewhurst put 46-15-0 of carp on the scales to win the Thursday match at Lingmere Fishery. He saw off Steve Openshaw’s 43-0-6 and Steve Foster with 21-14-0.

Openshaw bounced back to win the Saturday match, however, bringing in 45-14-0 of carp to beat Chris Smith with 35-4-0 and Richard Nelson with 33-0-0.

Willaston’s Phil Cross proved the cornerstone of the Cheshire Match Group team which took part in the opening match of the Crewe and District Winter League. Fishing the Market Drayton length of the Shropshire Union Canal, Cross finished fourth with 2-4-8 of small fish. Despite this the team still ended up in the bottom half.

Chester Tackle Locker fared better. Their Ellesmere Port-based member Keith Wilson finished in third with 2-10-0 of roach and perch. He was supported by Wayne Jevons’ 0-15-0 of gudgeon and John Andrew with 0-4-0 as Locker finished in second place.
