GARY Cross was top rod in the Lobol AS match hosted on their priory pool.
He drew in carp and tench to weigh 12-9-0, holding Barry Carlson at bay with 8-7-0 of bream and crucians, and Danny Boothroyd with 6-2-0 of skimmers.
Rod ‘n’ Reel’s Heronbrook Fishery Spring League team ended up in mid-table after the season opener on Sunday. Top rods for Reel were Nigel Smith with a carp-based 27-2-0, Mel Jenkins with likewise for 24-0-0 and Graham Lewis with 3-12-0.
Ellesmere Port British Legion AC members Jimmy Crimes and Robbie King earned a creditable third place in the open pairs match on the River Avon and the Kennet and Avon Canal in Bath.
Jimmy was drawn on the river, where he caught 2-15-0 and Robbie took small roach on the canal weighing 2-5-0.
Mark Greasley, of Ellesmere Port, claimed victory in the midweek match between Cheshire Police fished on the rock pool at Hampton Springs Fishery. He won with carp weighing 37-1-0.
Steve Openshaw won the Thursday open match at Lingmere Fishery with a carp-based 46-8-0. John Turner followed him with a mixed 24-0-0 and Dave Randles took 20-8-0.
The Saturday match belonged to Craig Swain with 32-14-0 of carp, beating Phil Ashdown’s mixed 22-14-0, while Dave Randles and Tony Irvine shared third with 18-6-0.
This weekend, open matches take place at the following venues: Hampton Springs (Friday-Monday), Heronbrook Fishery (Monday, 9am draw).
