FOLLOWING the massive 52lb catfish caught last week, I have been studying photographs of recent big fish catches at Lakemore.
And the good news is we have two or three 50lb fish, along with a further 14 40lb-plus fish on site.
Kelvin Christie found out for himself when he bagged a cracking 42lb 9oz catfish, Martin Downes landed a 38lb 5oz catfish, and Ron Weston got a 36lb cat.
John Murphy and Dave Blake netted 22lb and 20lb mirror carps respectively, while Derek Clarke had the best looking fish with a 20lb ghost carp. Keith Lynch's first visit was rewarded with a personal-best carp at 19lb and a 16lb common.
In general the Horseshoe Lake is producing quality rather than quantity. Carp to over 20lb have been out, while Cats in Longlake have been hungry.
Golden Lake has produced bream to 5.5lb, carp and catfish to 13lb and roach and skimmers to 1.5lb, while the moat pool has been good for 25lb bags with a mix of rudd, perch and carp.
Haslington lad Phil Dixon has reported that the fishing has been sensational at his Foremark Reservoir at derby.
Fish have been feeding all day high in the water. Crewe men Mike Laycock and John Henshall took 67 fish to the boat recently, all on floaters and a daddy long legs on the point with a couple of Diawl Bachs up the line.
Boat anglers are enjoying themselves with most taking limits. Bank anglers have just started to take fish in the Bays with the Sailing Club and Flamingo both holding plenty of fish.
More than 200 brown trout have gone in this week. There are a few places left for the Foremark Open on September 8. Call 01283 703202 to book.
Dishers Pool Club's first ever fishing match was won by Alex Hulme with a 24lbs 8oz haul. Runner-up at Oakhanger Mere was John Hughes (15lb 5oz).
Alex said: 'I've always been a very keen fisherman. I fished solidly and I am over the moon with my victory.'
Dishers will be holding regular fishing matches. For more detail contact Mick Preece on 07948 409353.
Wyche Angling Club have enjoyed wins over Acco and Hadley. In the 121-90 success over Acco at Whit-water, near Whitchurch, Wyche's John Merc (18lb 8oz) was top.
Acco's B Bond (15lb 2 oz) and R Griffin (7lb 11oz) were second and sixth respectively, but Wyche's M Woodward (10lb 15oz), A Abbote (9lb 15oz) and S Fogel (8lb 5oz) were third, fourth and fifth.
In the 170-146 win over Hadley at the same venue, Hadley's Neil Percel (33lb 3oz) and Andy Peate (22lb 7oz) were first and fifth, but Dave Holman (32lb), Ian Buckley (26lb 10oz), Woodward (24lb 7oz) and Merc (19lb 11oz) made up the rest of the top six.
