GORSTEY Hall at Bentley was the venue for Ellesmere Port AC’s match over the weekend.

Anglers struggled in the first and last hour of the match in horrendous weather. When the conditions improved however, the fish began to feed.

Delighted Port angler Andy Fletcher was top rod, netting 21lbs 4oz of small carp using pellet on the pole. Fellow Portite Andy Hickman took second place with 19lbs 6oz of stockies.

In wet and windy conditions, members of Rivacre Angling Club were in action on the banks of the Ketwick stretch of the Bridgewater Canal.

Ellesmere Port’s Harry Gittins was the most successful angler on the day, picking up a number of skimmers with maggot on the pole and a nice bream weighing more than 1lb as he took 3lbs of fish.

Opting to use the whip with maggot, the Port’s Ciggy Butler ran in second with a mixed bag weighing 2lbs 2oz.

There was a tie for third with Dave Grimes and Maurice Parks, also from Ellesmere Port picking up mixed bags on pinkies weighing 1lb 8oz.

Port ace Mark Greasley settled for runners-up spot in Thursday’s Cheshire Police AC match at Hampton Springs. On peg two of the Willow Pool, Mark took a mixed bag weighing 36lbs 7oz for second.
