ATHLETICS: WEST Cheshire AC grabbed glory at both ends of the age spectrum at the weekend.

The veteran men scored a team win at a road relay event, while the club's youngsters claimed a double success story at a regional indoor finals fixture.

Gary Munslow, Graham McNeil, Ken Begley, and Paul Frodsham secured the top prize in the veteran men's category at the Haigh Hall 4x3.75-mile road relays.

Gary clocked 20min 21sec on the first leg, Graham posted 19:55, Ken grabbed the fastest leg of the race in 19:24 before Paul anchored the team home with a time of 19:53.

The foursome is now preparing for action at the Veteran Eight-Stage Road Relay Championships, taking place at Sutton Park, Birmingham, in May.

WCAC's U13 and U15 boys toasted success stories at the North West Sportshall League Finals held at Wigan.

Gareth Preston, Huw Williams, Andy Whitton, Jeremy Stothart, Jeremy Wilderspin, Michael Ly-ness, Lewis Dodson and Tom Lowndes steered the U13s team to glory.

Meanwhile, Tom Price, Carl Van Schie, Martin Jones, Sam Bateson, James Callaghan, Matthew Kenny, Thomas Justice, Owen Roach and Jack Williams pushed the U15s to victory.

Tom Price leapt 2.79m in the standing long jump and 8.27m in the standing triple jump while Carl Van Schie finished third in the shot with 11.43m.

Sam Bateson achieved a score of 91 in the speed bounce and 62 in the vertical jump, while James Callaghan won the shot event with 12.09m.

WCAC's U15 girls finished second overall with Rachel Stoakley winning the two-lap title and Charlotte Roach finishing runner-up in the six-lap race, just one position ahead of Hayley Daltrey, while Stephanie Owens won her shot event.

Helen Clowes won the standing triple jump with 6.85m and Lauren Hunt finished second in the shot with 10.87m.

WCAC's U13 girls squad finished third in their competition, with the club's U11 girls finishing fourth and U11 boys finishing eighth.

Fixtures this weekend include the sixth round of the Borders Road Running League (11am) and a spring open track and field meeting at Macclesfield,(12.30pm), both on Sunday.

The WCAC Open Indoor High Jump and Shot Put Competitions are being held at Stanney High School on Sunday, April 4. All age groups, from U13s to seniors boys, are being catered for and entry is on the day.

The Chester Spring Five Miles Road Race takes place on Tuesday, April 6 (7pm), from Chester County Sports Club, Upton. Entries are being accepted by Richard Batterham, Ranelagh, School Lane, Guilden Sutton, Chester CH3 7ET.
