ATHLETICS: WEST Cheshire AC sprinter Abbi Kirk was named Track Athlete of the Match in the Northern League Division One West first-round fixture at Connah's Quay on Sunday.
She claimed two grade-two Under 13 performances after posting 10.4 seconds for 75 metres and 20.7 seconds for her 150m.
Abbi helped push her club to second in the match and to within nine points of winners Stockport Harriers and AC.
Danielle Bentley joined Abbi in the squad and powered the U13 shot to a winning mark of 5.79m.
Stephanie Owens also tasted success from the shot circle with a winning put of 9.51m in the U15 girls event.
She also found a winning distance of 28.36m in the discus alongside B event colleague Daisy Flynn-Piercy who grabbed victory with a throw of 13.65m.
Sian Kelman sprinted to a grade two 100m time of 12.9 seconds for victory and Daisy clocked 13.3 seconds for success in the B race.
Shona Valentine won the A 200m with a time of 28.2 seconds, and Emily Done finished second in the B 200m with 28.8 seconds.
Rebecca Grimes posted a double success from her 300m (46.2) and 800m (2:31.8) appearances.
Georgina Wright and Kerry Riley teamed up for valuable points in the 1500m, finishing second A (5:29.4) and second B (5:29.6), respectively.
Sian Kelman (4.90m) and Ruth Pritchard (4.42m) celebrated a double success in the long jump. Ruth finished second in the high jump after clearing 1.36m, and Laura Stott was second in the B high jump.
The quartet of Valentine, Flynn-Piercy, Kelman, and Done combined to earn West Cheshire success in the sprint relay with a time of 53.5 seconds.
Rachel Stoakley and Helen Clowes were West Cheshire's only U17 ladies in action. Rachel posted 13.1 seconds to win the A 100m, and Helen finished second in the B 100m with 14 seconds, and then claimed second spot in the javelin with a throw of 23.28m. Tom Price grabbed maximum points for West Cheshire in the U17 youths 100m (11.5) and 200m (23.9).
Carl Van Schie clocked 16.5 seconds for victory in the 100m hurdles and was third in the 400m hurdles (63.8) alongside Sam Bateson (67.6) who finished first in the B race.
James Callaghan used his strength to secure maximum points from the hammer (26.46m) and shot.
Aiden Stoakley and Tom Littler bagged first place in the U13 boys A and B 150m sprints, respectively, while Gareth Preston and Andrew Whitton won the U15 boys 200 races.
Jack Bancroft and Tom Booth combined to earn West Cheshire points from the U13 boys 75m hurdles. Match result: 1 Stockport 320 points; 2 West Cheshire 311; 3 Deeside 280; 4 Bury 150.
West Cheshire AC's next Young Athletes League match will be on Sunday, June 5, at Witton Park, Blackburn, where the club will compete against Wigan, Border, and hosts Blackburn.
Fixtures this weekend start tonight with the Christleton 5k Road Race, near Chester (7.30pm start).
Tomorrow and Sunday will see West Cheshire AC members heading to Macclesfield for the two-day Cheshire County AA Track and Field Championships (10.30am first field event, and 11.15am first track event start on each day).
West Cheshire AC has switched its Three Counties Grand Prix Open Track and Field Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 25, to Tuesday, May 24 because of a clash with Liverpool's televised European Champions League Final football match against AC Milan.
Peter Taylor, of Tattenhall Runners, was fourth in the Foel Fras fell race ahead of eighth placed Steve Hammond. First lady veteran was Sarah Hammond in 23rd place over-all with Mark Smith 29th.
