BASKETBALL: TEENAGER Michaela Swan has won a once-in-a-lifetime invitation to join the Harlem Globetrotters.

The 13-year-old youngster from Cambridge Road secured first place in a competition with Granada Reports to spend an evening courtside with the world's most famous basketball team.

Michaela's big night takes place this Friday when the Globetrotters play the New York Nationals at the MEN Arena, Manchester.

Mum Barbara said: 'It's an absolute dream come true for Michaela, she loves to do basketball tricks and it's always been her ambition to see the Harlem Globetrotters. Applicants were asked to write in and say why they should win and part of Michaela's answer was to say sorry to me for breaking all the vases in the house when she's practising her basketball moves.

'She's always working on her tricks and her current favourite is dribbling two balls blindfolded - and she also bounces the ball off her knee before catching it.'

The Swan family have received four VIP tickets to the game and will enjoy pre-match hospitality in the marque lounge before Michaela goes down to the locker room.

A Year Eight pupil at Stanney High School, Michaela enjoys lots of other sports, including cricket, rugby, tennis and Gaelic football.

Along with sister Georgina, she is also a fanatical supporter of TCS Chester Jets and her favourite players are DJ Harrison and Trey Moore, who is a former Harlem Globetrotter himself.
