Cheshire Phoenix fell to a disappointing defeat against Glasgow Rocks last night (April 9) in the first ever BBL game to be played in Wales.

The fifth-placed Nix swapped their usual Northgate Arena surroundings and headed to the Deeside Leisure Centre, Queensferry, for one night only to face their Scottish rivals.

However, despite a double triumph over the London Lions last weekend, John Lavery’s men were unable to build on their success and slumped to a 90-77 defeat to their BBL Trophy semi-final conquerors, the Rocks.

The Nix made a sluggish start on the court and failed to find their rhythm early on in the contest with the Rocks taking a double-digit lead in the first period before closing it with a 26-18 advantage.

Lavery’s charges rallied in the second, buoyed by the influence of Dominique Coleman and the fit-again Reggie Middleton, and put together a 15-2 run to surge past the Rocks and take a 40-35 lead.

Sterling Davis, the evergreen player-head coach of the Rocks, was in inspirational form as his side fought back to put together a 6-0 run to take a slender 41-40 advantage into the half-time break.

After trading buckets at the start of the third the Rocks, led by the impressive Daniel Northern, put together a fine 16-4 run to stretch their lead to 15 points as they controlled proceedings on the court.

The Nix were unable to overturn the advantage as the Rocks saw out the final period in relative comfort and denied the home side the chance to exact revenge for their BBL Trophy exit last month.

Nix duo Middleton and Coleman shared the high-scoring honours with with 19 points apiece while Victor Moses, unusually quiet offensively, added a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The Nix are back in action at the Northgate Arena on Sunday night when they will be looking to get back to winning ways when they face the winless basement side, Birmingham Knights (5.30pm).
