Chester FC assistant boss Jon McCarthy has said that the door has not been closed on John Danby.

Danby started for the Blues in the 1-1 pre-season draw with Crewe Alexandra today but remains on the transfer list at the Swansway Chester Stadium.

Blues boss Steve Burr told the Chronicle last week that no offers had been received for Danby, 30, who has been unable to commit to the Blues full-time model for this season owing to his personal training business.

Danby is under contract at the Swansway Chester Stadium for another 12 months and Burr, who has already signed goalkeeper Jon Worsnop and is trialling Bermudan international Freddy Hall, says any further transfer business is on hold until the popular stopper departs.

But McCarthy has said that the door hasn't yet been shut on Danby's Chester career and said that the club would do all they can to find an amicable solution to the situation.

"John Danby has been a model professional and I mean that," said McCarthy.

"We have inherited a situation where John signed a contract which was two evenings a week and he can't train on evenings (due to the club training in the mornings). There is a player there that we can't play. He has tried to work things around. I completely respect him and we have a really good relationship with him.

"They are trying to come to a situation where they can help each other out, but John hasn't got another club so John has to stay with us. We want him to come in training with us. John is a good keeper.

"It was a situation almost that we have inherited and we are trying to do it as best we can. It is not an ideal situation.

"In terms of John Danby, the reception he gets from the fans and in the dressing room and me working with him, if we can try and work something out and it works both parties then both parties can move on. If it doesn't and John can come and train with us in the mornings and he can start to push for a place in the team, great.

"He is a very good player, a proper professional and a very nice fella."

McCarthy said that he and Burr were happy with their squad but said that they may look to the loan market if the right players become available in the right areas, highlighting the clubs links with Crewe, Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers as avenues that could be explored.

"We have a young, hungry squad with players in positions with the experience we want," added McCarthy.

"We have got the loan system, a good link with Crewe. The gaffer has a good contact list. If we pick up any injuries or feel we are a bit deficient in any areas then that may well be when we have a look at it."
