This year’s MBNA Chester Marathon & Metric Marathon is filling up fast.
There are still places available for the race – on Sunday, October 2 – but organisers are advising anyone who wishes to take part to sign up soon if they haven’t already.
The race is ‘close’ to being a sell-out, says joint race organiser Chris Hulse of Active Leisure Events.
Chris added: “For the third year running we are offering people the chance to run 26.2 kilometres rather than miles as in the main marathon event.
“This is especially attractive to people who want to try a distance beyond the half marathon but don’t want to go the full distance.
“Our event attracts runners from all over the UK and beyond, as well as a significant local contingent.
“It is the only Metric Marathon in the country and we are proud to be putting it on.”
The Metric Marathon has a later starting time to the main event, so its runners return to the spectacular Chester Racecourse finish at around the same time as the marathon runners, their route covering the final eight miles of the marathon through Aldford and Huntington before running along The Groves for the Roodee finish.
They receive the same great goody bag as the marathon runners, along with bespoke Metric Marathon t-shirts and medals.
Joint race organiser Andy White said: “We have been pleased with the quick take-up of entries for the 2016 event.
“The amount of entries we see coming in always increases rapidly in the final weeks leading up to the event and, as numbers are limited, we face an abundance of disappointed runners who leave it too late and end up missing out.
“To avoid that this year, you need to act now to secure your place in the race.”
