IN A junior programme devastated by poor weather, Chester Nomads under 9s managed to play out a 4-1 victory at home against Helsby in the Chester and District Junior League.

An own goal opened proceedings before Dixon grabbed a brace and Ap Gareth polished things off against dogged Helsby. Man-of-the-match was Baird.

In the U14s Division One, Whitby Strikers lost to visitors Tattenhall 9-3. The game was almost lost to the weather but for the efforts of Whitby, who hunted long and hard for a pitch that was playable.

The surface was still heavy going, however, and 10-man Whitby Strikers worked hard to put Tattenhall under pressure.

They battled back from 2-0 down to draw level but could not keep going at the rate they started and, once Tattenhall got ahead again, the task was too great for the hosts.

Tattenhall’s goals came from Lewis Jones (4), James McNeil, Connor Dignam, Robbie Kerr, Finlay Pilkington and Sam Green. MoM was Tattenhall right-back George Payne-Gil.

A match survived in Division Two as well, with Upton North earning a point from their 2-2 home draw with Elton Youth.

Elton recovered from 2-0 down after Upton had dominated the first half and Mike Hopley had converted two good chances.

In the second Elton grafted to close down the technically able Upton and got the breakthrough when Joseph Smith converted a penalty. Dean Simcott then poached the equaliser towards the end. MoM was Elton’s Mitchell Jarvis.
