WINDY conditions set up a thriller in the under 14s section as Pulford and Malpas both hit the woodwork three times.
Malpas used the wind to launch a series of direct attacks in the first half, but breached the home defence just once. In the second half, Pulford pounded the visitors’ goal but Malpas broke away to score with a fine long-range shot. The home team pulled one back through Rory Benson, but a brilliant goalkeeping display saw visitors Malpas home 2-1.
Thomas Flaherty and Thomas Pugh scored for Malpas, while Harry Brightmore and Kallum Marsden were Pulford’s scorers. Midfielder Tom Boyle struck twice to put Upton South 2-0 up against hosts Chester Nomads at half-time.
Nomads pushed forward after the break to claim a late consolation. Star man was defender Chris Edwards.
Visitors Newton made the better of the blustery conditions, beating home side Tattenhall 6-1. Lewis Jones struck for Tattenhall and MoM was goalie Mathew Jones. Kevin Tanswell also battled at left back.
Blacon Youth White had a good match against Chester Nomad Colts, using plenty of first half possession to win 2-0 through MoM Martin Bromwich. Colts came back strong in the second half but neither side could convert their chances.
Home side Upton battled in a close game against JFC Boughton. In windy conditions the visitors nabbed the vital goal seven minutes from full-time through Chad Williams.
Upton’s MoM was Gary Wilson and Lewis Burgess for Boughton.
Newton and Westminster Park Wanderers crashed into each other in the U13s division, with 12 goals in all. Westminster took the lion’s share with four from Kyle Shaw, one each from Scott Gibbons, Charlie McGowan and Josh Robinson, and MoM Jack Nuttall brought another two goals to the party.
Saughall Colts hosted a tough slog against Upton but came out 4-3 winners.
Colts went ahead after the first minute with a George Carroll penalty. Luke Diamond scored two more to make it 3-1 at half time, but Upton’s second-half strength led to a 3-3 score with 10 minutes left.
Matty Taylor put Guy Byrne in to get the winner.
Excellent performances in goal from Daniel Youde and Jeff Norris.
Saughall MoM was Lee Derbyshire with Adam Davies, George Mecklenburgh and MoM Paul Hughes scoring for Upton.
Pulford had it tough as they went down 8-0 at home to Vicars Cross. The visitors dominated, closing the game down with four first-half goals.
They then attacked on the break to add four more. Goalscorers were Callum Brately, Ashley Luft (2), Alex Smith (2), Jack Roberts (2) and Anthony Grubb.
In the U16s division, AFC Waverton and Chester Nomads was a close game but ended 3-1 Nomads.
The first half ended with Nomads 1-0 up but Waverton came out fighting in the second half and a well worked Jack Johnson strike levelled the scores. Nomads were more clinical in front of goal and took the three points. Skipper David Carter and Phil Howard were Waverton MoM.
