Hundreds of junior footballers took to the Chester FC turf for the Chester and District Junior League’s annual finals day last week.

Upton Panthers under 10s side were victorious in their cup final, beating Newton Athletic 1-0, but Newton Athletic Reds U12s gained revenge with a 3-0 final win against Upton JFC.

Christleton Newscene made it a league and cup double in the U11s competition, beating AFC Waverton Wasps 3-1 in the final of the Hunters Cup thanks to goals from Charlie Potts (2) and Ethan Challinor.

Waverton’s goal came through Archie King, while Wasps’ Hannah Snape was named player-of-the-match.

There was joy for  two of AFC Waverton’s sides as the Arrows beat Malpas 3-1 to lift the U13s Cup.

There was also a victory for AFC Waverton Jets in the U14s Cup final as they saw off the challenge of Malpas to seal the crown.

In the U16s Cup final, Heath Rangers stopped Waverton sides from bagging a hat-trick of victories as they saw off a spirited Wasps side to eventually claim a 4-1 success.

In the U10s Shield, Newton Athletic Reds secured a 4-0 win over The Groves but their U15 side could not replicate that success and slipped to a 3-2 defeat against Ellesmere Port.

Chester Nomads lifted the U18s Cup following their 3-1 triumph over Runcorn Panthers.
