THE intriguing battle for top spot in the Chester & District Junior League Under 9s Blue Division took a new twist on Saturday when Blacon Youth won their crucial clash at Westminster Park Panthers 1-0.

Joe Thompson got the only goal of the game with Harris Dixon and Jake Jones sharing the man-of-the-match award for Blacon. Park’s stand-out performers were Daniel Goodall and Daniel Kefford.

Defences dominated as Helsby drew 0-0 with Westminster Park Lions. Ross Watson was named the MoM for the hosts, with James Worthington and Louis Freir sharing the honour for the Lions.

Yellow Division leaders Waverton Jets made it seven wins from seven with a 2-0 triumph at Groves Athletic.

Upton Pumas moved within one point of pole position in the Red Division with a 7-0 success at Elton Youth, for whom Joshua Murray was the MoM.

Vicars Cross Dynamos are not giving up on winning the Green Division. They cemented second position with a 4-1 victory at Malpas & District Blacks, for whom Patrick Norman replied and Louis Richardson was the MoM.

Reece Rowlands (2) and Owen Gittins got the goals and Joe Black was the MoM as Saughall Colts won a good game 3-1 at home to Waverton Rockets.
