St Oswald’s Primary School, Mollington were crowned ESFA Small Schools Champions of Cheshire for the second year running last week as they fought off tough competition in the County Finals at Crewe Alexandra Academy.

Each of the seven teams there were winners and runners up of their local tournaments around Cheshire and the standard of football this year was excellent.

Chris Timms, deputy headteacher said: “We needed to be at our very best this year as the standard of football was the highest I have seen it at this event. The players should be incredibly proud of this achievement.”

The school who were close to becoming national champions last year topped a tough group with two wins and two draws, progressing to the semi-finals beating an excellent High Leigh side 1-0.

In the finals they faced another Chester side, unbeaten Saighton Primary School. It was St Oswald’s who were the stronger side however, running out 4-0 winners. St Oswald’s will now represent Cheshire in the ESFA North England SS Finals at the end of March.
