Year 9 and 10 girls from Abbey Gate College enjoyed an action-packed five-day hockey tour to Barcelona.
The girls played a number of local teams, as well as receiving training from international coach Jorge Debanach. As a result their technical and game skills improved and they are looking forward to putting their enhanced skills into practice next term against their Chester-based opposition.
In addition to playing and practising, the girls were able to watch a men’s National League hockey match, spend time experiencing the culture of Barcelona, including taking in sights such as La Sagrada Familia, and spend time relaxing on the beach in temperatures that hovered around 30C all week.
Head of boys PE Chris Cutler, who accompanied the trip, said: “This was a fantastic tour in terms of the girls engaging with each other and always giving 100% against very talented opposition, while the hotel staff complemented the girls on their polite and dignified behaviour around the complex over the entire trip. I would also like to extend my thanks to college staff Miss Emma Jones and Dr Emma Leatherbarrow for their support, enthusiasm and organisation throughout the whole week.”
