MARK Wright has told Roberto Martinez to make a decision on his future before Chester City's players board the team bus to Swindon today.

Martinez, the Blues' 33-year-old captain, is one of the leading contenders to take over as manager of his former club, Swansea City.

Chester will not stand in the Span-iard's way if he is given the chance to return to the Liberty Stadium, but Wright does not want the matter to drag on and has given Martinez until today to make his mind up.

If the veteran midfielder decides to stay, he will be included in City's squad for tomorrow's League Two match at Swindon Town.

Wright said: 'Roberto has got a good rapport with the chairman down there but it's got to be resolved by Friday at the latest because we'll be travelling to Swindon by 2pm. So if it's not done by then, I'll be trying to speak to our chairman to say 'finish it, that's it' because it's unfair to us all.

'If it's not resolved, he's staying here. Plain and simple. There is no way we can turn round and let it go on and on.

The chairman and myself have been very fair in everything we've done and, if he goes, it will be a big loss.'

Although Chester are demanding a quick decision from Martinez, Swansea are not going to rush the appointment of their next manager.

The League One outfit were due to hold interviews with prospective candidates, including Martinez, at Carden Park yesterday and it could take until the middle of next week for them to select a successor to Kenny Jackett, who left the club last week.

The Swans are keen to appoint a young manager with fresh ideas and Martinez - who skippered them to promotion in 2005 before leaving to sign a two-year contract with Chester last summer - fits the bill.

Other names in the frame include Newcastle coach Dean Saunders, ex-Leeds boss Kevin Blackwell and former Coventry manager Micky Adams.

Martinez, who was unavailable for comment yesterday, has made no secret of his desire to get into management and was this week given permission by Chester to speak to Swansea.

In his short time at the Saunders Honda Stadium, he has made a positive impact both on and off the pitch.

City boss Wright said: 'He's one of them people who you would want to marry your daughter because he's so damn nice.

'I understand why they like him in Swansea but it has to be resolved one way or the other.'
