CHESTER City's search for a second goalkeeper continues this week with manager Mark Wright urgently trying to boster his squad prior to the start of the Coca-Cola League Two season on August 5.

City only have former Kidderminster Harriers keeper John Danby in their squad currently and Wright is anxious to create competition for the green jersey.

He said: "There is a massive shortage of quality goalkeepers at the moment, we are trying everywhere.

"I have contacted numerous Premier League clubs to try and arrange loan spells for keepers, but at the moment nobody is prepared to release players.

"We have a couple of irons in the fire, so we shall keep on trying."

Wright revealed that he will play a number of trialists in the friendly match against UniBond League club Cammell Laird tomorrow night. He said: "There are certain players we have had a look at in training, so it's likely they will play some part on Wednesday."

Wright also revealed that defender Phil Bolland and midfielder, Glen Cronin, who both picked up injuries last week, will be ruled out for three months.

Chester have received agreement from Huddersfield Town to offer cut priced admission for the final pre-season friendly of the summer at the Deva Stadium on Saturday, July 29.

Admission will be just £5 for adults, while youngsters under 15 will gain entry to the match free of charge. City officials hope to attract as many people as possible to the game, in order to promote the club in the area.

Pre-match activities are also being planned.

Meanwhile, tickets for City's Carling Cup first round tie against Leeds United are on sale at the Deva Stadium offices, during normal business hours. Tickets are priced at £12 for adults, while OAPs and children's tickets are priced at £6. The match will be played at Elland Road on Tuesday, August 22 (kick-off. 7.45pm).

City's reserve fixtures for next season have been announced. Chester open their programme with a trip to Accrington Stanley on Wednesday, August 16.

The first home fixture is on Wednesday, August 23 when Manchester City are the visitors to the Deva Stadium. The home derby match against Tranmere Rovers will be played on October 11, while Wrexham visit the Deva on December 13.

* AFTER drawing 2-2 at Kidsgrove and beating a youthful Chester City side 1-0, Northwich Victoria will get their first serious pre-season test when they meet Crewe Alexandra at the New Victoria Stadium tonight.

Manager Steve Barr was pleased with performances of his four new signings against Chester and also with trialist Craig Doyle, who scored the only goal. Further trialists will be on view tonight, when Crewe are expected to field a team chiefly comprising first team regulars.

Meanwhile, Northwich and Witton Albion have agreed to postpone their Mid-Cheshire FA Senior Cup semi-final from Thursday to Saturday at the New Victoria Stadium. The winners will host Alsager Town in the final, provisionally on Thursday, July 27.
