MARK Wright has pinpointed Chester's 'predictable' attacking play as one of the reasons for their alarming slide down the League Two table.

As the Blues boss prepares for his first home game since returning to the helm, he has called on his players to inject some width into their play against relegation rivals Torquay United.

City have scored only eight goals in the last 15 games.

In that time, they have claimed just one win and tumbled down the table from fourth to fourth-from-bottom.

The Gulls are rock bottom but just four points worse off than the Blues, making tomorrow's Saunders Honda Stadium encounter a 'must-win' contest for both teams.

Wright said: 'Chester started out like a house on fire but now people have found out they are pretty congested through the middle and they can't get through. It's like a traffic jam.

'We need people to pull wide and get balls into the box. If we do that, we can compete. That's what we've been missing. We've become predictable.

'To be unpredictable when you're going forward is the best way to be.'

Tomorrow's match will be Wright's first competitive home game in charge of Chester since the Conference title-winning party against Scarborough on April 17, 2004.

The former Liverpool and England defender - who replaced the sacked Keith Curle last Tuesday - is relishing his return.

He said: 'It will mean a lot to me personally. It's nice to be back here. I'm a family man and to be around my children is fantastic. I've got a lot of mates in this part of the world and I'm really grateful to (chairman) Stephen Vaughan for giving me the chance to be part of it again.

'I've always wanted Chester to do well.'

Wright's only previous visit to the Saunders Honda Stadium this season saw the Blues claim a 3-1 win over his Peterborough side last November.

On the selection front, midfielder Justin Walker picked up an ankle injury in training on Wednesday and is awaiting the results of a scan to determine how serious the damage is.

Ben Davies is available to take on the Gulls after serving a one-match ban.

If yesterday's snow fails to clear, tomorrow's match could be subject to a morning pitch inspection.
