Gary Mills has been sacked as manager of Wrexham.

The Dragons have parted company with the former Nottingham Forest player after a woeful start to their National League season that has seen them lose four of their last six, leaving them languishing in 15th in the National League.

Mills had come under fire following the 0-0 derby draw with Chester FC last month when his side were booed off at the Racecourse.

The club's fortunes haven't improved since and Mills, who signed midfielder John Rooney from Chester in the summer, has been shown the door just two days before the club travel to Stamford in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round.

Former Gateshead and York City boss Mills has been linked with a return to the latter, with the Minstermen set to appoint a new boss in time for their home clash with Chester on October 22.

“Our main priority is promotion back to the Football League and we have not made the progress expected towards that aim, falling short of the play off places last season, and currently out of touch with the table leaders with a third of the season already gone," said Wrexham director John Mills.

“We have therefore made the difficult decision that a change is needed.”

An interim management team of Joey Jones, Dean Keates and Andy Davies is in place for the weekend.
